A Silver-Fibered Snowflake Wonderland!
Fluffy handmade Christmas card ideas :: A unique Christmas
greeting card design of a beaded snowflake with beautiful silver frayed
backing.
This handmade card idea is quite ‘different’ to the more
traditional Christmas card. There’s lots of texture in this card, which makes
it a real ‘touchy feely’ design!
Try using a dark colored card blank (like navy blue) for a
different yet striking look.
You Will Need:
A plain folded
white card (C6)
The blue-backed
snowflake image from the Printable Christmas Card Making Kit here…
Snow white and
pearlized blue seed beeds
Silver embossing
powder
Clear embossing
pen
Heat embossing
tool (also known as a heat gun)
Frayed silver
fibers
PVC glue
Spray on glue (I
used 3M’s Spray Mount)
Steps For Making This Handmade Christmas Card Idea …
Print it out! Open
up the Printable Christmas Card Making Kit [the what?] and print out the page
that contains the blue-backed snowflake design.
Tear it! Carefully
tear along the inner edges of the blue design, so that approximately 1cm of the
outer light blue border is left.
Emboss it!
Handmade
Christmas Card IdeasWith your clear embossing pen, draw little dots around the
edges of the snowflake design, making them more concentrated where the light
blue border merges into the darker blue. Do this in stages, so that you can
sprinkle on the silver embossing powder before the ink dries. Use the silver
embossing powder and your heat tool to emboss the design onto the paper as you
go along.
Repeat the
same procedure (making little dots) to heat emboss the central white snowflake
design.
Spray glue it!
Spray glue the back of the embossed blue rectangle. I used 3M’s Spray Mount
glue.
PVC glue it! To
make sure the frayed fibers will stay put, squiggle some pvc glue onto the
center of your card (where the center-piece will be positioned).
Add fibers! Trim a
length of silver fibers so that it’s long enough to frame the blue rectangle.
Fix the fibers around the inner edges of the underside of the embossed design,
then position onto your card.
Glue blobs! Time
to fix the seed beads to this handmade Christmas card idea!
Draw over the
snowflake design with your PVC glue, but instead of drawing a straight line,
dab small blobs on to carefully planned points on the snowflake. I for example,
started by adding a blob in the center, then added a blob on each of the 6
spokes (just before they fork out).
Draw a
horizontal line of glue blobs underneath the blue rectangle, making sure you
leave space for the frayed fibers. The line should be positioned approximately
halfway up the remaining space on the bottom of your card.
Fix seed beads!
Add the blue seed beads to the glue blobs you’ve just made. The beads on the
snowflake will help guide you for the rest of the white seed bead positionings.
Glue blobs and
seed beads galore! Fill out the rest of the snowflake design with blobs of glue
and fix the snow white seed beads to them.
Tip: Use my
example above as a guide if you’re unsure of the spacing for your beads.
